U-M Panel: “How the Web and Information Technology are Empowering Sustainability”

I was on an Erb panel yesterday examining “How the Web and Information Technology are Empowering Sustainability,” with Nick Aster, founder of TriplePundit.org and Karl Rosaen, former Google Android developer now developing realtimefarms.com.

I’m not sure what we concluded, though there were a lot of opinions and points of view expressed about what is and what might be and what ought to be (government involvement, greenwashing, carbon management, markets as conversations, buying local food, information overload, unintended consequences, etc.)

Overall, I was struck by the passion for this topic – the idea that IT and social media are enabling and transforming sustainability in innovative ways.
