From Australian IT:

MATHEMATICIANS have developed a software tool to help businesses minimise the cost of carbon emissions compliance.

The tool, developed at the University of Melbourne, allows organisations to easily develop a strategy for reducing and offsetting their carbon liability.

The Carbon Liability Optimiser (CarLO) also helps a company account for its emissions when making investment decisions across all areas of the business.

CarLO was developed by Heng-Soon Gan and Brendan Kite from Melbourne Operations Research (MORe), a consultancy based in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the university.

“If a company has an emissions target it wants to meet and it has a long list of projects it needs to carry out, it could use this tool to better utilise its resources across time,” Dr Gan said.

This, apparently, is what SAS also purports to do. Interesting to see which types of industries will be drawn to this type of an approach versus other types of functionality…
