IBM CityOne: Serious Gaming For City [and Corporate?] Planning

Innovative application of information systems can drive environmental sustainability in organizations by shaping beliefs and attitudes and transforming what’s possible.

IBM in Fall 2010 will release CityOne, an online game that challenges “players” to conduct city planning to overcome issues of urban degradation such as water and air pollution. Players may implicitly learn about the issues and may even alter their beliefs about such issues as climate change (though research would be needed to examine this question, which could even run in the opposite direction – the game may reinforce existing beliefs).

It seems to me only a short step from a possible “CorpOne” to enable employees to conduct risk analysis and simulate outcomes to its global business operations as a result of changes in the supply of natural resources and environmental degradation. Could CityOne be in effect a massively multiplayer pilot test of CorpOne?
