Energy Use Feedback: Chevy Volt Style

I just test drove the Chevy Volt here in Detroit at the AMCIS conference. The dashboard includes a spinning green ball (on the right above) that rises and turns yellow for excess acceleration and lowers for excess braking. Engineer Scott who test drove with me said (paraphrasing here): “it’s one of my favorite features… after driving the Volt for a bit, when I changed back to my own car I found myself driving better, thinking about that green ball.” I also found myself watching that green ball… at one point I accelerated to see what would happen and whoops there it goes to yellow and floats up like a balloon.

12 hours for a charge (120V) and 4 hours at 240V.Smooth, eco-efficient ride: kudos to GM for allowing us to take their latest products out for a spin.
