SAP HANA: In-Memory Computing for Energy Management

In-memory computing promises faster analysis of massive real-time databases. The video above demonstrates SAP HANA (high-performance analytics appliance) used by a large utility company to provide real-time analysis of business energy use.

In-memory computing is still in its early stages of deployment and many questions remain. But putting billions of data points into a terabyte of RAM for real-time analysis is intriguing from an end-user standpoint, subject to the wrinkles being worked out.
