Epicor Survey of Medium-Sized Enterprises: Carbon Accounting Off the Radar

Carbon Disclosure Project surveys demonstrate that for most large multinationals, energy management and carbon emission reporting are definitely on the radar. But what about medium-sized companies?

Epicor Software conducted in late 2011 a survey of nearly 1,000 global medium-sized enterprises, roughly half in manufacturing, 42% with 100-1000 employees, and 43% with $50 million in revenue or less. The bottom line?

Nearly 3 in 5 had not heard of the term “carbon accounting”

4 in 5 do not monitor their carbon footprint.

Below is an infographic that summarizes the survey results (click for link to larger image).

While the results are not surprising, they suggest both challenges and opportunities for cost reduction, efficiency enhancement, and carbon emission reductions in medium-sized organizations (perhaps enabled by low-cost cloud computing software solutions tailored to the specific needs of these firms).
