Foursquare + AMEE = Location-based Transport Carbon Footprinting

Environmental data analytics firm AMEE developed the “AMEE Location Footprinter” for foursquare. Based on your check ins, AMEE uses emission data (and estimates) to compute a weekly transport carbon footprint.

What’s great about this is that it works in background. We humans like everything to be done for us, with minimal manual intervention. Simply go about your business with foursquare enabled, and emissions are computed and presented to you in a simple visual display (and used by foursquare or AMEE for other purposes…?).

The limitation is that transport mode is guessed and the app only includes emissions based on transport, not based on other activities such as cooling your house.

It’s a solid start and an interesting contrast to other carbon footprinting apps.
